Surface mechanics specialist Professor Hitoshi Soyama has been elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

ASME has the largest international academic community in the field of mechanical engineering. And the title of Fellow is an honour only conferred on candidates who have made outstanding achievements in the field of engineering.

Soyama, who is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at Tohoku University's Graduate School of Engineering, has been recognised for his contributions to research and education.
